During the first semester, several portuguese moldmaking companies organized events to close innovation projects, in the most varied intervention areas:
Project title: iDTool: Technics of Identification of Cutting Tools with RFID tags for smart tool management
Summary: The iDTool project consists in the integration of RFID technology in cutting tools by chip extraction, aiming to create a solution for intelligent identification and management of the same, through the development of an agile and decentralized data management system.
Project title: Zero.Mould - Integration of no manual strategies and technologies for high value automatization of mould precision adjustment
Summary: Development of manufacturing systems and processes to reduce defects/deviations accumulated in the various stages of injection mold production of an injection mold, elevating the mold production phase to a digital industry scenario, equipping the industry with prototype equipment with motion and control that allows assembly, polishing, and computer vision capable of mimicking the operations performed by technicians, with the intention of revolutionize the times and precision of adjustment and also to captivate new engineers for this task, in order to leverage and enhance the mold industry.
SIMOLDES
Project title: I-Tool – Efficient, Smart and Optimized Molds for the Industry
Summary: The I-Tool project aims to design and develop new intelligent, efficient and optimised mould solutions. The aim is to promote the integration of advanced analysis and development tools, as well as the adoption of advanced manufacturing methods and technologies. To this end, techniques such as computer science, algorithms and artificial intelligence are used. These techniques aim at technological improvement in order to lead the change and evolution of the injection mould design and development paradigm.
MD GROUP
Project title: Hi-REV - Recovery of the Automotive Components Sector
Summary: Agenda for the development, test and demonstration of a new generation of technologies processes and products that allow for a new positioning of the national automotive cluster in the global value chains of the car of the future
DRT GROUP
Project title: Hi-REV - Recovery of the Automotive Components Sector
Summary: Agenda for the development, test and demonstration of a new generation of technologies processes and products that allow for a new positioning of the national automotive cluster in the global value chains of the car of the future
Project title: DDM4Glass - Direct Digital Manufacturing for Molds for Glass
Summary: Production of highly complex moulds for glass using hybrid technologies, combining additive and subtractive solutions, making the process more efficient and innovative. The production of moulds for glass through direct digital manufacturing, will respond to increased functionality requirements, and will make it possible to build complex moulds at reduced costs, conquering new customers and markets.
VIDRIMOLDE

The production of moulds for glass through direct digital manufacturing, will respond to increased functionality requirements, and will make it possible to build complex moulds at reduced costs, conquering new customers and markets.
INTERMOLDE
Project title: SHELLMOULD - A new integrative mold concept to maximize glass packaging production
Summary: ShellMould is a project for the glass packaging mold industry with an innovative mold concept (shell+solid) in which the engineering of its interface allows controlled cooling and a homogeneous distribution of thicknesses, contributing to increase the quality of the final product.
GLN
Project title: Magnetized Gears
Summary: The project aims to change the current paradigm of magnetizing injected parts, through the research and development of an innovative alternative process that allows magnetizing parts within the production cycle, as opposed to the current processes in which magnetizing is done a posteriori, i.e. outside the tool (mold). To ensure the pursuit of this main objective, the development of new technical and scientific skills and a new approach in the design and development of molds and specific equipment for magnetization is critical. Likewise, new developments in terms of plastic raw materials are relevant, new requirements for the selection of steels in the process of mold construction process.
